infoDev Awards
infoDev (www.infodev.org) is a global grant program managed by the World Bank Group to promote innovative projects on the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for economic and social development, with a special emphasis on the needs of the poor in developing countries.
InfoDev is offering US$ 100,000 for innovative ideas addressing the use of ICT for development. A separate infoDev jury team will review and short-list proposals prior to the event and will meet with selected proposal teams during the Innovation Competition.
infoDev awards will be synchronized with the overall Development Marketplace awards so as to avoid overlaps.

The Development Marketplace at a glance
The Development Marketplace is a forum to encourage cooperation within the development community in the search for solutions to reduce poverty.
It is envisioned to be both a series of events as well as an electronic space - to be used by members of the development community in order to find and create new ways of working together.
The event on November 5-6, 2001 in Washington, DC features an innovation competition for start-up funds as well as a (strikethrough: knowledge) Forum for sharing our collective experience on what new ideas are working best.
The Development Marketplace is open to all: innovators within the development community wishing to compete for start-up funds, partners who believe in supporting innovation in development, those who already have a track record of excellence and want to showcase their successes to the development community.
Eligibility Criteria for proposal outline:
a) 12 month implementation time frame,
b) partnership with at least one other organization,
c) maximum award size of $250,000, with typical awards averaging $50,000 to $100,000.
The Themes for the competition are:
a) Empowering poor people to participate in development and investing in them, and
b) Building the climate for investment, jobs, and sustainable growth.
Ideas will be assessed on how well / much they:
(a) are innovative,
(b) address poverty reduction,
(c) are sustainable beyond the pilot phase,
(d) can be replicated in a different country or region,
(e) achieve results while maintaining cost-effectiveness,
(f) demonstrate ownership among a broad community and institutional base,
(g) can obtain additional funding, and
(h) incorporate learning for others" benefit.
Partnership Criteria: All proposals must be submitted in partnership with at least one other organization - e.g., an NGO may partner with another NGO, bilateral/multilateral development agency (including the UN family), government, academic/ research institution, or foundation.
Note: If you are a private business, you may not partner with another private business.
